Offshore drilling operations impose wear and fatigue stresses on drill wire lines at the point where the wire passes over the sheave. Undertaking a planned cut-off programme can increase the service life of drilling lines. This involves replacing the most heavily worn steel wire rope section with new rope from the storage reel, a laborious and time consuming process.
The hand-held, Webtool cutter uses blade-on-blade guillotine cutting technology to provide a quick and easy solution. The tool preserves the cylindrical wire rope profile exerting marginal deformation to the drill line, resulting in reuseable cut ends which easily fit back into a spelter socket or dog clamp.
